Ford City Mall Welcomes Young Scientists
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (February 19) - Ford City Mall welcomed
the winners of a science and technology essay contest. The four youngsters from
the Robert Taylor Homes each won an all-expense-paid trip to Hawaii to
participate in the world famous JASON Project, courtesy of EDS, United Airlines
and the Robert Taylor Boys and Girls Club. In preparation for their scientific
adventure, they received a shopping spree to Ford City Mall to purchase items
needed for their trip, such as luggage, shoes and apparel.
Members of the
Ford City Mall management staff were on hand to greet them and congratulate them
on their success! The winners, Antoine Neal (Farren School, 8th Grade), Billy
Gillespie (Farren School, 4th Grade), T'erra Jackson (Beethovan School, 6th
Grade) and Charmas Baylock (Beethovan School, 5th Grade) were very excited about
their upcoming trip to Hawaii and their shopping spree at Ford City Mall!
The winners were among 25 members of The Robert Taylor Boys and Girls Club
that participated in the world-renowned science and technology program known as
JASON. After several weeks of studying Hawaii's climate, geography, volcanoes,
culture, plant and animal life, the young scientists were asked to write essays
comparing Hawaii to their own state, city and community.
The Jason
project was founded by Dr. Robert Ballard in 1989, three years after he
discovered the wreckage of the Titanic. JASON is the fulfillment of his dream to
allow millions of young around the world to share in the excitement discoveries
by participating via interactive satellite.
Congratulations to the essay winners and all the young people that participated in the JASON Program! Ford City Mall wishes you continued success!
